Objectives

The general goal of the various MTP Seminars is to deepen the knowledge and skills that allow a proficient and critical use of research in the field of Psychology and related fields, to plan the development of an individual original research, empirical or theoretical, in a specific field of Psychology.

 

This course specifically aims to follow up, manage and monitor the implementation of the individual research project, more specifically:

1- To guide the use of adequate methods of data collection in a specific field of research (thematic area)

2- To guide the use of adequate methods of data analysis in a specific field of research (thematic area)

Learning outcomes and competences

At the end of semester, the students should be able:

1- To test and use specific methods to conduct qualified data collection tasks in a specific field (thematic area)

2- To select and use adequate methods to conduct qualified data analysis tasks in a specific filed (thematic area)

Working method

Presencial

Pre-requirements (prior knowledge) and co-requirements (common knowledge)

To have been approved in the UCs of Seminar I and Seminar II.

Program

1- Preparation of research instruments

2- Specific processes and procedures to conduct qualified data collection tasks considering the research design

3- Definition of methods to conduct qualified data analysis tasks to answer the research question

4- Developing a research progress report, with particular emphasis on defining the research plan and the description of the research methods.

Whenever feasible, efforts are made to address major themes/social concerns and their relation to the SDGs.

Teaching methods and learning activities

Contact sessions: tutorial work meetings with the supervisor; presentation of field work/assignments; formative and summative evaluation activities.

Invited experts create opportunities to enhance and diversify the training of the students; students’ sharing of their diverse professional experiences/scientific fields represents an additional gain.

Student autonomous work: literature review; research tasks; written research report.

Eligibility for exams

Students must attend at least 75% of the contact hours, attend selected classes if indicated, meet with the supervisor and submit a written report describing the research design and methods of their project, in which they must achieve the minimum grade of 9. 5 in a scale 0 to 20.

Calculation formula of final grade

The final classification is obtained by the supervisor continuous evaluation (representing 30% of the final classification) and by the written report describing the research design and methods (representing 70% of the final classification).

Without prejudice to the rights legally granted to them, given the nature of the UC, student workers and beneficiaries of comparable statutes must comply with the requirements of attendance.
Students with special needs (e.g.: hearing or motor impairment) must inform the teachers at the beginning of the semester in order to ensure the necessary conditions.
