Following the curricular unit “Methodology and Epistemology of Research in Psychology I”, this curricular unit goes on with the training in methodological topics of the research in Psychology, having for objectives:
- to present the assumptions and characteristics of quantitative research, highlighting its utility and way of operationalization;
- to present the questionnaire as a method of quantitative data gathering;
- to present and work with the main techniques of quantitative data analysis, using the SPSS program.
At the end of the semester, students should be able:
- to understand the assumptions and implications of quantitative research in Psychology, generally, and more particularly the use of questionnaires
- to analyze quantitative data by means of the SPSS program;
- to demonstrate the ability of critical thinking to the analysis and interpretation of results of quantitative research in Psychology.

- characteristics and objectives
- the questionnaire as method of quantitative data gathering
Introduction to the program of quantitative data analysis SPSS
- structure of SPSS
- construction of data files
- descriptive statistics and graphics
- principles of inferential statistics
- parametric and non parametric tests
- bivariate inferential statistics (chi square, t test; Pearson correlation; simple linear regression)
- analysis of variance with one and two factors, and with repeated measures
- transformation of variables and files
Contact activities with the students:
-presentation of the different topics using different technological means, practical examples and discussions in large or small groups
- execution of practical activities, individually or in small groups, as application of knowledge within the classroom, using computer when appropriate
- supervision of practical activities
Autonomous work by the student:
- study activities
- activities of research and bibliographical revision
- activities of reading and analysis of scientific texts
- execution of practical activities, complementary to those executed within the classroom
