Objectives
1. Understand the rationale associated with the statistical procedures using the statistical software SPSS (Statistical Package for Social Sciences);
2. Select and apply, in a critical and reasoned way, the more appropriate statistical procedures to research problems presented;
3. Critically interpret the research results;
4. Detect differences between groups and between different measurements in time;
5. Analyze the variables relations, as well as identify important predictors of a given phenomenon;
6. Present relevant results to the scientific community, using tables and graphs;
7. Conduct basic studies which apply statistical procedures;
8. Mastering statistics language at the level of understanding and writing research reports;
9. Develop critical thinking about the application of statistical procedures in scientific publications.
Program
1. Analysis of variance (ANOVA) with one factor:
i) Between-subjects (one way)
ii) Within-subject (repeated measures)
2. Analysis of covariance (ANCOVA)
3. Notion of linear correlation and graphical representation
4. Simple and multiple linear regression
5. Non-parametric statistics:
i) Chi-square test
ii) Measures of association
iii) Differences tests

Teaching methods and learning activities
• Theoretical-practical classes in small groups of 25 students with e-learning component.
• Exposition classes complemented by problem solving and practical exercises on the computer.
• Reading and analyzing critically scientific articles in small groups.
• Completion of projects applying the knowledge and skills acquired, which implies writing short reports in compliance with the regulations established by Psychology reviews (APA regulations).

Eligibility for exams
Presence of at least 75% of classes provided.
Calculation formula of final grade
The final classification is the result of the sum of the classification of the final written exam (weighted 70%) with the practical work classification (with a weighting of 30%).
Achieving a grade less than 8.0 values (0-20) in any of the methods of assessment leads to failure of the student in the course.
Students with a rating of 8 or 9 values may be subjected to an oral examination.
Special assessment (TE, DA, ...)
Students in the special assessment, who have not at least 75% of attendance in classes, will perform also a practical exam in the last week of classes, in order to obtain equivalence to classes’ attendance. The test result will be expressed in approved and not approved.
Students not approved in the examination of equivalence in attendance fail this course.
Classification improvement
Students may register for examination to improve the grade in one of the times immediately following that in which they approved.
The improvement of the practical work can only be accomplished with a new job in the following school year.
