Abstract (EN): Sunflower (Helianthus annuus L. cv. SH222) plants were exposed for 3 weeks to 0,10, 25 and 50 mM Na2SO4. The contents of soluble glucose, fructose and sucrose increased in mildly-stressed cells, while starch content decreased. These changes may be due, at least in part, to the increases of amylase and invertase activities. In severely stressed leaves glucose, fructose, sucrose and starch contents decreased together with a decrease of protein content and a decrease of invertase and amylase activities. Also, comparing the sugar contents among young, fully expanded and oldest (senescent) leaves of unstressed plants, higher contents were found in fully expanded leaves, together with higher amylase and invertase activities. Contrarily oldest leaves had lower levels of sugars and enzyme activities. Data presented here suggest that there is some similarity in the patterns of these two enzymes during naturally induced senescence (ageing) and salt stressed induced senescence of sunflower plants.
