Abstract (EN): The purpose of this paper is to explore the main factors that are behind the creation and deterioration of a meta-organization's Collective Intellectual Capital. It also seeks to understand how these factors are articulated in the production of such effects. This paper presents a case study conducted in a Portuguese seaport. The complexity of the interactions between the various actors turns the seaport into a very interesting empirical ground for research. Evidence suggests that compatibility/incompatibility of goals and power can be crucial drivers for the creation or deterioration of Collective Intellectual Capital in a seaport context. These concepts, as well as the ones of collaborative and conflictive behaviors are encapsulated in an integrated framework, in which both dyadic and more complex relationships are depicted. Seaports are still underexplored empirical settings, from an IC perspective. Hence, we take a new approach in order to establish causal relationships between the concepts of collaboration and also conflict, at both dyadic and networking levels, with the ones of collective intellectual assets and collective intellectual liabilities. The paper provides practitioners with valuable insights, namely those responsible for network coordinator organizations (such as port authorities) who are concerned with the achievement of a meta-organization's goals. This study contributes to the development of IC research in practice, specifically in a setting a meta-organization in which a "collective" service is provided. Hence, generalization to other situations should only be conducted in a theoretically framed manner.
