Abstract (EN): This chapter addresses the available adhesive bonding techniques between composite materials and lightweight metals. Initial emphasis is given to the description of the different kinds of bonds between these materials, main advantages and applications, focusing on bonding of hybrid bonding between these materials as different components, and fiber metal laminates (FML). The chapter also describes a few experimental works on hybrid bonds together with relevant results, showing the potential of hybrid bonds. Potential advantages of using hybrid joints over conventional bonds are the weight reduction, increase of structural efficiency, improved behavior over a wide range of temperatures, and increase of the damage tolerance and of the impact resistance. With the availability of reliable design and predictive methodologies, new possibilities emerged for the efficient use of bonded joints. Design is often associated to stresses and strains determination for the component in-service loading and prediction of the structure strength and probable points of failure. © 2018 John Wiley & Sons, Inc.
