Abstract (EN): Internet produced major transformations in newsrooms and in online media. New forms of newsmaking were achieved and new technologies play now a central role. A great diversion of participation is now possible and news sites are used by the public to express opinions, debate the subjects of the agenda, and include their own material. Journalists’ attitude towards public participation tends to be framed by their perceptions of professional roles even if they encourage interactivity. Television has a tradition of public participation but it’s not clear if the TV sites mirror this practice, particularly in the news organization. This study is it’s a first attempt to understand the relation between the news published and the publics’ participation. A previous study presented at the III Seminário Internacional Media Jornalismo e Democracia, showed that most of the publishers’ news criteria had a correspondence in the number of comments. News were divided in sections: Politics, Economy, International, Society, and the public participation was measured according to the number of comments under each of them. Among other results the analysis pointed out that a more permissive editorial orientation encourages more comments in spite of its pertinence. The aim of this study is to try to indentify if there is a similar behaviour by the TV news agenda and the public’s reaction. An identical methodology will be adopted in order to study the editorial criteria in TV portuguese websites and the relation between news and the public’s comments. The sample will comprehend the study of two TV news sites for a month period recorded daily at a given hour, and the published comments in the three following hours.
