Abstract (EN):
The distance from ‘metropolitan’ Portugal and the scarce economic value of the territory may well the main reasons why Timor was not favoured by the Portuguese colonial administration during the Dictatorship period (1926‑1974). Conversely, Macau was already experiencing profound demographic, social, and economic transformations induced by the radical transformation of China during the Revolution. The geographical study of Macau, within the context of Portuguese tropical geography, must therefore pay special attention to the political conditions of that country.
