Abstract (EN): In 1950, the Overseas Research Board [Junta de Investigações do Ultramar], the body for scientific research in the Portuguese colonies, published, in the collection “Estudos, Ensaios e Documentos”, the work On the house and settlement of Guinea [Acerca da casa e do povoamento da Guiné], by Francisco Tenreiro. The author, at this time already working at the Center of Geographical Studies [Centro de Estudos Geográficos] in Lisbon, came from the Higher Colonial Studies [Escola Superior Colonial], which helps to explain the markedly ‘anthropological’ tone of the work, not only in the attention he gives to aspects of material culture but also, and above all, the identification of ‘the domains’ and ‘the contacts’ of culture.
