Welcome to the Faculty of Pharmacy, University of Porto (FFUP)

FFUP is a Higher Education Institution dedicated to teaching, research and institutional cooperation. Therefore, since 1921 we have been training professionals in the field of Pharmaceutical Sciences, both aware of their importance as professionals, as well as the central role they occupy in the society in which they operate, as advisers and promoting agents of public and individual health. Aware of the current pedagogical trends and the permanent challenges facing the profession, we have developed a broadband curriculum structure, which favors the theoretical component associated with laboratory practice in the most diverse scientific areas, fostering global knowledge of Pharmaceutical Sciences. This option reflects not only the opening up to a wide range of professional opportunities, but also enables professionals capable of providing reasoned and consistent responses. Since 2012, we have occupied a building complex equipped with several laboratories, whose state-of-the-art equipment allows to enhance the intense research work that FFUP produces. In this context, by the way, the Faculty of Pharmacy occupies a top place with regard to scientific production within the University of Porto, demonstrated by the publication of a large number of scientific articles indexed in prestigious international scientific journals. We are aware that we offer our students ideal conditions so that their training is of excellence from scientific, technical, ethical, human and social point of view. We work with future Pharmaceutical Sciences professionals with the certainty of paving the way for their professional fulfillment.

THE FFUP DEAN HAS THE FOLLOWING POWERS AND DUTIES

to represent FFUP in the Senate before the remaining bodies of the institution and outside of the institution;
to chair over the board with management competences, to lead the Services of the FFUP, and may also chair the Scientific Council and the Pedagogical Council;
to respond to requests made by the Rector or the General Board of University of Porto, within the deadlines defined by them according to the needs of the University government, namely regarding the strategic plans, budgets and reports of activities and accounts;
to approve the timetable and schedule for academic activities, after hearing the opinion of the Scientific and Academic Affairs Councils;
to execute deliberations of the Scientific and Academic Affairs Councils, when binding;
to exercise any disciplinary authority delegated to him/her by the Rector;
to submit for the approval of the Board of Regents FFUP's strategic plans and the action plan for the quadrennium of his term of office, after hearing the Scientific Council opinion, in articulation with the University's strategic plan;
to propose FFUP's general scientific, pedagogical and financial guidelines in articulation with the plans approved by the General Board of University of Porto and other competent organs of the University;
to submit the budget and plan of activities, as well as the plan of activities and accounts in accordance with the corresponding plans approved by the General Board of University of Porto;
to propose the creation, transformation or dissolution of FFUP organizational subunits to the Council of Representatives, after hearing the opinion of the Scientific Council;
to draw conclusions on the evaluation reports of the research units that make up the FFUP, and those in witch teachers and researchers participate;
to propose the creation or alteration of study cicles to the Rector, after hearing the opinion of the Scientific Council;
Manage student social support arrangements, in conjunction with the Social Action Services, and develop tuition payment plans that may facilitate attendance and progression in higher education;
to exercise the duties delegated to him/her by the Rector;
to exercise the remaining duties he is assigned by law or FFUP statutes;
to issue the regulations necessary for FFUP's proper functioning;
to approve the distribution of the teaching service, taking into account its financial and operational feasibility;
to decide on the appointment and hiring of staff, in any capacity;
to raise and manage revenues, and to authorize expenditures and payments;
to decide on the acceptance of movable property;
to appoint and dismiss, in accordance with the law and with the FFUP statutes, the FFUP Service Officers;
to appoint the Department Director, in the exceptional cases of reiterate disagreement between the Director and the Department Council;
to decide on the creation, merging, transformation and dissolution of FFUP research and development units, as well as their internal regulations;
to decide on the creation, merger, transformation and dissolution of FFUP research and development units, after hearing the Scientific Council.
