At the end, the student should (1) know the main pathophyisiological mechanisms of diseases, (2) learn the basic principals of the correspondent pharmacotherapy, (3) integrate the information in order to interpretate and apply to real cases, and (4) be able to follow the state-of-the-art.
At the end of the course the student should: (1) identify the main pathophysiological mechanisms of the diseases presented, (2) analyse clinical cases, (3) discuss the advantages and disadvantages of different drugs for specific clinical case studies, (4) choose the more indicated drug for a particular clinical setting, (5) answer the challenges posed during classes, by answering questions and participating in discussions.
Tecnical english language will be useful for the reading of some support material.

Theaching is presencial complemented by the internet through the informatic network of the University if Porto and the e-learning platform Moodle. The course gives 5 ECTS credits, so it will take about 135h of work to the student. Of these, only 52h are presential. There will be 28 theorical (1h) and 14 pratical (2h) classes. Theorical classes will expose the most relevant features of each theme. Practical classes will allow exploring in more detail the pharmacotherapeutic approaches according to the more recent guidelines, exemplifying with clinical cases as ever as possible and discussing the thopics. Students will be stimulated to prepare the laboratorial classes in advance so that they function better and the transference of knowledge is potentiated. Professors will accompanied the students presentailly, during classes and appointment period, or through the internet.

The presence in laboratorial classes is mandatory. Those not attending at least 75% of the classes effectively given cannot obtain frequency to the UC. Theorical classes are not mandatory.
There is no oral exam.
The final exam takes 2h00m (maximum) and has 80 multiple questions (0.25 points each). The classification is done by normalization and edumetric analysis, considering omissions. The exam might be done in the computor.
To stimulate the participation in classes, the final grade can be improved taking into account: (1) how much does the student participates, (2) how good is the participation and (3) assiduity, with a ponderation of 40:40:20 for a maximum of 20.00 points. At the end, the formula 20% classes + 80% final exam is applyed. This will only be applyed if it favours the student. Otherwise, the final classification if the grade of the final exam. A minimum of 50 hundredths is needed to round up the grade. In order to benefit from the participation in classes, the student must have at least 8,00 points in the final exam.
In particular cases, an oral exam might be taken.
As the rules of the Faculty.
Only for the final exam.
It is important that the student has at least basic knowledge of Anatomy, Histology, Physiology and Pharmacology.
