Objectives

In this discipline, we are complementing the knowledge acquired in the basic course of Immunology (3rd year) taking into account the analysis of clinical cases related to the proposed programme. The theorical component is based on the evaluation of the inherent molecular and cellular parameters and characteristics in each pathology. The theorical - practical component is based on the discussion of clinical cases and the presentation by the students of new situations to study.

j. Autoimmune diseases and viruses of the liver
k. Diagnosis of tumours of immunological origin

Theoretical-practical component
Discussed will be research into the different pathologies treated in the theoretical component of the discipline. The students must present themes related to the material, discussed together and evaluated throughout the year.

Mandatory literature

Medical Immunology, Fifth Edition
Helen Chapel, Mansel Haeney, Siraj Misbah; Essential Clinical Immunology , Last edition.

Teaching methods and learning activities

Theory lectures: (2h/week) presentations in Power Point X; films associated with the material presented to practical-clinicals.
Theoretical- practical lectures will be given in the form of discussion of clinical cases of pathologies explained in theory lectures.
Students will have the opportunity to explain some situations and will be evaluated on this content.
The professor will be available for students during times announced at the beginning of the semester and for whatever the students require from the professor responsible.

Evaluation Type

Distributed evaluation without final exam

Eligibility for exams

The attendance of the students in the theoretical-practical lectures is obligatory; the students whose attendance is less than 75% of the lectures announced will be considered to have been absent

Calculation formula of final grade

The final classification is attributed according to the norms in use by the Pedagogical council of FFUP. The classification is based on the presentation of the: immunological theme (50%), clinical case study (25%) and critical presentation of scientific papers (25%).

Examinations or Special Assignments

Conformation of norms of evaluation of FFUP 2007/2008. Final exam will be done by the working student with total subject of the discipline.

Classification improvement

The student has the right to require the repetition of the final exam to better the grade in one of the two periods either normal or supplemental immediately subsequent to that in order to obtain a passing grade.
The repetition of the exam in order to improve the grade may be done only once per discipline.
The final grade of the discipline will be the higher one obtained in the two exams.

Observations

Knowledge of the basic knowledge of Biology, Molecular Genetics, Microbiology and Immunology is taken for granted.
The constant revision is recommended of the knowledge of the course of Immunology throughout the year.
