Abstract (EN): The use of new genetic tests such as preimplantation genetic diagnosis (PGD) for sex selection raises ethical problems that need to be addressed and discussed by the society in which they become available. Although these tests do not raise any problems when they are indicated for medical reasons, questions such as beneficence or social justice are ethically relevant when they are demanded for "social" reasons. The current choices that are made by the present society should be based on attentive appreciation of the implications that they may have in future generations without compromising the scientific and technological advances and the consequent benefits.
