Abstract (EN):
Francisco Vasques Tenreiro (1921–1963) was born in the island of São Tomé, at the time part of the Portuguese overseas province of ‘São Tomé e Príncipe’— son of Portuguese father and Sãotoméan mother, a condition that proved to be relevant to his scientific geographical imagination and discourse. He left São Tomé at very early age and came to Portugal. After some initial hesitation in the first years of academic trainig, Tenreiro finally graduated from Colonial Higher School, between 1944 and 1948). In his final graduation year, Tenreiro assisted Orlando Ribeiro (1911-1997), who had been designated to organise the XVI International Geographical Conference to be held in Lisbon in the Easter of 1949. For a decade, Francisco Tenreiro (1921-1963) published a series of articles in scientific journals on the geography of the then Portuguese province of São Tomé e Príncipe.
