O lusitano no indo-europeu: uma peça fora do puzzle

Resumo (PT): Neste estudo, discutiremos as diferentes propostas de enquadramento do lusitano na família indo-europeia que a ligam ao ramo céltico (Renfrew, 1998), pré-céltico (Witczak, 2005) e itálico (Villar, 1991 e Prósper, 2002). Por nenhuma delas ser satisfatória, recolocaremos a língua no ‘puzzle’ indo-europeu, seguindo um modelo de Garrett (1999, 2006), apontando contribuições da mesma para a construção do modelo do dialect continuum e inclusão neste último. Porém, concluiremos que é já suficientemente especulativo rotulá-la como «indo-europeia», dada a escassez de dados e o abismo temporal que nos separa da observação desta língua e, há que admitir que há coisas que poderemos nunca vir a saber.

Abstract (EN): In this paper, we will discuss the different hypotheses for the Lusitanian’s position within the Indo-European family, the ones that link it to the Celtic branch (Renfrew, 1998), pre- Celtic (Witczak, 2005) and Italic (Villar, 1991 and Prósper, 2002). None of which is satisfactory enough, so we will re-locate the language in the Indo-European puzzle following a model sugested by Garrett (1999, 2006), pointing out some Lusitanian features that support the dialect continuum model. However, we will conclude that, in linguistic terms, it is good enough to label it as «indoeuropean », once there is not enough data and the time depth is too large to make further speculation.
