The main objective of the Integrated Master in Pharmaceutical Sciences (MICF) is to train pharmacists with the necessary scientific knowledge, appropriate professional attitudes, and required technical skills to honour pharmaceutical activities in Portugal or in any EU country. It is responsible for training professionals of excellence in the various activities inherent to the Pharmaceutical Act, committing future pharmacists to the principles of professional ethics and social awareness, essential to their activity.
DESCRIPTION OF Course
The Integrated Master's Degree in Pharmaceutical Sciences (MICF) at the Faculty of Pharmacy of the University of Porto (FFUP) has the following objectives:
The study program has 300 ECTS divided into 10 semesters. At the end of the sixth semester, having completed 180 ECTS, a bachelor’s degree in Basic Studies in Pharmaceutical Sciences is awarded. The study program is based on the research and technical experience of the teaching staff in the fields of chemistry, biology and drugs sciences and applies an interdisciplinary educational model with multidisciplinary teams. This model is flexible, student-centered and inclusive, with a high-quality practical/laboratory component that promotes research initiation, adopting a hybrid model, where appropriate, for distance learning. The course is open to the continuing education of professionals and includes a 6 month curricular internship, in a professional context, in a community/hospital pharmacy, offering additionally a huge variety of experiences of integration into the various activities of the Pharmaceutical Act.
Having completed the Bachelor degree in Basic Studies in Pharmaceutical Sciences, or the Integrated Master in Pharmaceutical Sciences, students can still choose to continue their studies in one of the second or third study programs, respectively, at FFUP, or at other UPorto institution or universities. In this context, FFUP’s educational offer stands out in the more in-depth areas of Pharmaceutical Sciences, including Pharmacology, Chemistry, Biochemistry, Microbiology, Pharmacognosy, Pharmaceutical Technology and Toxicology; as well as in professional specialization, namely Clinical Analyses and Quality Control; or in more interdisciplinary areas of knowledge as the Forensic Sciences, Academic Education in the Clinical area and even Occupational Health and Bromatology. Additionally, FFUP offers various continuing education courses for updating and/or deepening knowledge and skills.
