Objectives
To provide the students knowledge and competences about pharmacy practice research to allow student participation in research teams and to understand the results of researches that will foundament their decision making during their practice of pharmacy activities.
Learning outcomes and competences
At the end of this curricular unit, students should be able:
• To identify the difference between a research idea and an actual research question developed in a research protocol.
• To identify the most appropriate research methods for a given research question in pharmacy practice.
• To understand the selection of statistical tests to be able to assess differences, associations, and causality.
• To develop a research project applicable to a professional practice setting (i.e., hospital or community).
Working method
Presencial
Pre-requirements (prior knowledge) and co-requirements (common knowledge)
Pharmacy Practice Research curricular unite requires students with the expected maturity of a 3rd year who are conclusind their first cicle of the Integrated Master. It benefits of the previous learning of curricular units like Pharmaceutical Chemistry, Pharmaceutical Technology, and Pharmacognsy, as well as Pharmacology running in parallel.
Program
Theoretical Program1. Research Protocol (searching the literature)
2. Creatimng a database
3. Design of epidemiological studies
4. Bias aqnd study limitations
5. Basic concepts in applied statistics
6. Surveys and questionnaires
7. Studies with simulated patients
8. Drug utilization research
9. Qualitative research
10. Evidence synthesis, quantitative and qualitative
11. Writing a scietific article
12. Oral and poster communications
Theorical-Practical Programa During theoricalo-practical classes, students should develop, in three-member groups, a reserach project integrating and applying all the knowledge and competences acquired in theoretical classes. The projecty should be delivered as a final assignement to assess the course.

Teaching methods and learning activities
Pharmacy Practice Research learning method will be based on hybrid methods (B-learning) with a face-to-face component complemented with a guided learning using the e-learning platform.
THEORETICAL CLASSES:
Theoretical classes are provided in a lecture form using presentations (Power Point and short movies). Students' participation in lectures will be promoted with the use of questionnaires about topics not yet presented.
THEORETICAL-PRACTICAL CLASSES:
In theoretical-practical classes students must present a collaborative project (gropus of a max. 3 people). At the end of the semester each group should have developed a small research project wich results should be presented in an oral or poster communication
Evaluation Type
Distributed evaluation without final exam

Eligibility for exams
Frequency: Presence in theoretical lectures isnot mandatory, alujthough highly recommened. Theoretical-Practical classes follow the current regulation, which means that students cannot fail attendance in more than 25% of the classes.
Calculation formula of final grade
Final score will consist on the sumation of the score obtained with the final project presented by the group (maximum 16 points with the continuous assessment score obtain by the student individually after class participation (maximum 4 points).
