Objectives

To provide students with knowledge on health policies and health systems organization on their different dimensions, with a particular focus on the Portuguese health system and the contextualization of the pharmaceutical sector.

Learning outcomes and competences

In the end, the students should have acquired bases on health policies and health systems. In particular, they should know what a health system is and what its objectives are, and know the different models of the health systems organization, their evolution and the main challenges currently facing.

They should also get to know the Portuguese health system and the underlying public policies and to contextualize the pharmaceutical sector in the system.

Finally, they should be able to develop critical thinking about health systems and health policies as instruments aimed at improving the performance of the systems in their different strands.

Teaching methods and learning activities

Eligibility for exams

The attendance to the theoretical and practical classes is a prerequisite for obtaining frequency and, therefore, for the admission of the students to the final exam of the Unit.

According to the FFUP Assessment Standards, the student fulfills the attendance requirements if the number of absences to theoretical and practical classes not exceed 25% of scheduled classes.

Calculation formula of final grade

COMPONENTS OF THE EVALUATION:

- DISTRIBUTED COMPONENT (0-20) – valued on the basis of the works presented by students along the term (50%);

- FINAL EXAM (0-20) – written exam that focuses on all matters actually taught in lectures and practical classes along the term (50%).
 

FINAL SCORE CALCULATION (0-20):

Final Exam score x 0.5 + Distributed Component score x 0.5

Students with a score equal to or higher than 9.5 are considered approved.

Students with a score less than 9.5 are considered failed.
