Apresentação Pessoal

Joaquim Faria Monteiro was born on August 22, 1982, in Portugal, but considers himself a committed European. He currently resides in the city of Porto (known as the "Invicta") and stands out for his dedication to both academia and clinical practice, particularly in onco-hematology and sports medicine.

From an early age, he understood that education is essential to both clinical and teaching activities — learning continuously to become a better clinician and educator.

His medical training includes a specialization in Sports Medicine from the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Porto, as well as an Integrated Master's Degree in Medicine from the same institution. He completed his European Doctorate in Biomedicine and Pharmacy at the University of Valencia, Spain, focusing on clinical and population pharmacokinetics, and also earned a Master’s Degree in Research and Rational Use of Medicines. His path in the pharmaceutical field began with a pre-Bologna Degree in Pharmaceutical Sciences from his alma mater, the Faculty of Pharmacy of the University of Porto.

His professional journey has spanned both academia and clinical activity.

In academia, he was appointed Assistant Professor at the Faculty of Pharmacy, University of Porto, in March 2025. From 2007 to March 2025, he served as Assistant Professor at the Instituto Universitário de Ciências da Saúde – CESPU, where he coordinated several curricular units. He collaborated with the Faculty of Pharmacy of the University of Porto as a Visiting Lecturer from 2022 to 2025, and held similar positions at the Institute of Biomedical Sciences Abel Salazar (ICBAS) between 2010 and 2015. He is also a trainer in Clinical Pharmacokinetics for the Portuguese Association of Hospital Pharmacists.

As a medical doctor, he has been registered with the Portuguese Medical Association since 2019 and is currently specializing in Sports Medicine, working with Boavista Football Club and the Clínica Médica da Foz. He worked in the Medical Department of Futebol Clube de Vizela from 2023 to 2025 and is currently participating in advanced training programs in Sports Medicine offered by the Spanish Society of Sports Medicine. Previously, he completed his general medical residency and specialized training in Clinical Hematology at the São João University Hospital Center.

Joaquim also worked as a hospital pharmacist at Vila Nova de Gaia – Espinho Hospital Center and at the University Hospital Dr. Peset in Valencia, Spain, where he was part of the Clinical Pharmacokinetics Unit.

He is the author of several scientific articles in the fields of pharmacokinetics, personalized pharmacotherapy, pharmacometrics, hemato-oncology, and sports medicine. Joaquim has supervised multiple research projects, including two doctoral programs in Pharmacology, and has participated in FCT-funded projects and other research initiatives, particularly in the fields of oncology and therapeutic drug monitoring.
