Jorge Ascenção Oliveira (PharmD, PhD, EuCP) is an Associate Professor and the President of the Pedagogical Council at the Faculty of Pharmacy - University of Porto - where he lectures and coordinates Neuroscience and Physiology units.
Jorge is the founder and leader of the
Research Lab Mitochondria and Neurobiology at UCIBIO - Applied Molecular Biosciences Unit. His main research interests include the pathophysiology of neurodegenerative disorders, and experimental therapeutics with modulators of mitochondria, epigenetics, and proteostasis. He also has a broad interest in mitochondrial physiology and pharmacology, and in model organisms such as zebrafish - for pharmacology, ecotoxicology, and neurobiology studies (

Jorge is an European Certified Pharmacologist (EuCP;
Certificate) and a trained Data Scientist (
Datacamp profile). He is a member of the Consortium for Mitochondrial Research (UCL, UK) and of the European Huntington's Disease Network.
Jorge received the U.Porto Best Students Award (Eng. António de Almeida Foundation), Young Investigator Award (Biochemical Society, PT), competitive Research Projects as Principal Investigator, and several Pedagogical Awards from the U.Porto (Excellence in e-learning, Pedagogical Excellence, and Pedagogical Innovation) and the AEFFUP (10 Annual Best Professor Awards).
He plays the guitar, enjoys trail running, and biodiversity monitoring.
