Medicinal Plants - Challenges and Opportunities

The course aims to promote the transmission of knowledge about the use of medicinal plants, their beneficial effects, toxicological risk and opportunities for recovery in an increasingly demanding market, enhancing innovation and entrepreneurship.
Specifically, it intends to provide trainees with the knowledge and skills necessary to:
  1. Conduct standardized tests;
  2. Prepare plant extracts and characterize their chemical profile;
  3. Conduct chemical, enzymatic and cellular assays;
  4. Design formulations.

Information

In order to promote the safety of all participants and follow the directives of the DGS, as well as the current rules of access, circulation and permanence in the ICBAS / FFUP Complex, the Course Organization informs that:

- The course attendance regime is mixed - Online and Face-to-face - so that on each day the trainees only remain at the FFUP facilities for part of the day. Like this:

July 13th to 16th
- Theoretical classes / morning (online);
- Laboratory practices / afternoon (in person - Lab. De Farmacognosia FFUP);

July 17th
- Theoretical class and Closing Session (in person - Lab. De Farmacognosia FFUP).

- The use of a mask / visor is mandatory during the face-to-face sessions and during the lenght of stay in the complex. The laboratory activities respect the maximum number of people per laboratory / classroom space, defined by FFUP.

DATE AND PLACE:
13 to 17 of July 2020 in the Faculty of Pharmacy of U.Porto.


CREDITS:
2,5 ECTS


RECIPIENTS:
The course is aimed at students of 2nd/3rd cycles, professionals in the areas of pharmacy, chemistry, biology and related areas and other candidates who show interest in this topic.

Candidates will be admitted according to the following selection and ranking requirements:
Scores will be awarded to applications, according to the following characteristics of the candidates:
- Academic degree of the candidate - Doctorate: 3 points; Master: 2 points; Undergraduate degree: 1 point.
- Professionals working in the areas of pharmacy, chemistry, biology and related areas: 20 points.
- Professionals from other areas who wish to deepen their knowledge on this topic: 16 points.
- Students of the 3rd cycle of studies who wish to deepen their knowledge on this topic: 12 points.
- 2nd cycle students who wish to deepen their knowledge on this topic: 10 points.
- Other candidates, who show interest in the area, preferably with a university degree or university attendance: 6 points.
In case of a tie, an analysis of the Curriculum Vitae will be made, being placed or candidate with more years of professional experience in the areas of pharmacy, chemistry, biology and related areas.


TUITION FEES:
Students of the University of Porto: 75 ¤
All others: 200 ¤
