Susana Carvalho received her PhD degree from Wageningen University (NL) in ‘Production Ecology and Resources Conservation’. She is an Associate Professor at the Faculty of Sciences of the University of Porto (FCUP), where she is responsible for several R&D and Education Management functions, including: Vice-Director of the Associate Laboratory ‘Inov4Agro - Instituto para a Inovação, Capacitação e Sustentabilidade da Produção Agroalimentar’; Vice-Diretor of ‘GreenUPorto - Research Centre for Sustainable Agrifood Production’; Vice-Director of ‘Agricultural Sciences PhD program’ and Director of ‘Agriculture Engineering MSc program’.

Her research has focused on ecophysiology, plant nutrition, and plant pathology, primarily using horticultural crops as model systems. To date, SC supervised/co-supervised 19 PhD (9 concluded) and 71 MSc students, coordinated 18 R&D projects with competitive funding (5 International - being Work Package Leader of 3 EU-projects), and participated as a member of the research team in several other multidisciplinary projects (including an additional 3 EU-projects). She published ca. 90 articles in ISI journals and book chapters (H-index 25) and presented ca. 150 communications in International Congresses (including 75 Oral/keynotes). Since 2015, she has been Associate Editor of ‘Frontiers in Plant Science’ (IF 5.754 ). SC has extensive experience as a Member of Evaluation Panels for National and International calls.
