Susana Carvalho received her PhD degree from Wageningen University (NL) in ‘Production Ecology and Resources Conservation’. She is currently Assistant Professor at Faculty of Sciences of University of Porto (FCUP) where she is responsible for several R&D and Education Management functions including: Vice-Director of the Associate Laboratory ‘Inov4Agro - Instituto para a Inovação, Capacitação e Sustentabilidade da Produção Agroalimentar’; Vice-Diretor of ‘GreenUPorto - Research Centre for Sustainable Agrifood Production’; Vice-Director of ‘Agricultural Sciences PhD program’ and Director of ‘Agriculture Engineering MSc program’.
Her research has been focused on horticulture, ecophysiology, plant nutrition and plant pathology - mostly using greenhouse crops as model systems. To date SC (co-)supervised 18 PhD (7 concluded) and 52 MSc students, coordinated 11 R&D projects with competitive funding (being Work Package Leader of 2 EU-projects) and participated as member of the research team in several other multidisciplinary projects (including more 2 EU-projects). She published ca. 72 articles in ISI-journals and book chapters (H-index 18) and presented ca. 90 communications in International Congresses. Since 2015 she is Associate Editor of ‘Frontiers in Plant Science’ (IF 5.75). SC has a large experience as Member of Evaluation Panels of National and International calls.
