José Pissarra began his scientific activity at the Electron Microscopy Center (UP), was researcher at the Center for Experimental Cytology – UPorto, then at the Institute for Cell and Molecular Biology (IBMC) and later at BioISI. He is currently an integrated researcher at GreenUPorto. He has been responsible and co-responsible for projects funded by the Foundation for Science and Technology (FCT), the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation, the National Agency for Scientific and Technological Culture, the University of Porto and also by several companies.
He maintains several national and international scientific collaborations. The results of his research activity have been presented in congresses and published in peer-review journals. Has been an evaluator of applications for master, doctoral and post-doc scholarships and has participated in project evaluation panels. José has also been referee in several international scientific journals within his areas of expertise.
Having acquired a sound knowledge on microscopic wood anatomy he has been responsible for analysis and identification of woods in archaeological, paleobotany, art history and forensic purposes, as well as supervising MSc dissertations and PhD theses on these contexts.
His current investigation interests are related with endomembrane trafficking and remodelling mechanisms in plant cells during development and in stress situations.
