Justification of the creation of the training and its integration in the U.Porto’s goals/objectives
Erasmus+ Blended Intensive Programmes are teaching/learning elements jointly delivered by several universities, combining virtual components with short-term physical mobility. The training is planned under the Blended Intensive Programme (BIP) rules. It is a joint programme of universities from different countries, where learners come together.
Advanced Biomedical Signal and Image Processing is an interdisciplinary area that combines knowledge of engineering, mathematics, computer science and medicine to analyze, interpret and improve biomedical images and signals. This area plays a crucial role in the diagnosis, monitoring and treatment of diseases, using advanced techniques to extract relevant information from the signals and images obtained from patients.
This Unit will enhance international collaboration, enabling students and faculty to exchange ideas with European peers, fostering cross-border partnerships. The blended model offers flexibility, combining online learning with hands-on, in-person experiences, preparing students for the growing demand in healthcare technology. Interdisciplinary projects, leveraging engineering, computer science, and medical knowledge, would drive innovative solutions for diagnostics and treatment. This BIP aligns with EU priorities in healthcare innovation, advancing sustainable practices, and equipping students with specialized skills, while expanding their international networks and career opportunities.
General goals of the training
The main objective of this BIP is to provide participants with in-depth knowledge and practical experience in Advanced Processing of Biomedical Signals and Images, with a focus on Deep Learning for Digital Cardiac Auscultation, Time Series Classification using Transformer Models, Privacy and Ethical Considerations in Health Data, Digital pathology using deep learning, and EMG Signal Analysis for Gynecology. Through real-world case studies and expert-led sessions, students will enhance their understanding of cutting-edge technologies, gaining critical insights into their application in healthcare, while addressing the ethical and legal responsibilities involved in processing sensitive biomedical data.
