Objectives
The aim of this course unit is to provide students with practical experience in scientific research or with professional training as physicists within an enterprise environment. The course seeks to foster the ability to integrate knowledge, address complex problems, and devise appropriate solutions; to communicate conclusions clearly, together with the underlying knowledge and reasoning; and to work effectively as part of a team in a professional context.
Learning outcomes and competences
Students develop the knowledge, skills, and competences outlined in the internship plan, which is defined jointly by the host enterprise or institution and a co-supervisor from FCUP.
Working method
Presencial
Program
Each student will follow an individual internship program. Each internship will be supervised by a team that comprises a main supervisor at the host company or institution and a co-supervisor from FCUP. The supervision team will mentor the student throughout the internship program and during the preparation and submission of the final Internship Report.
Mandatory literature
Specialized literature, technical manuals, research articles relevant to the internship.; Varies according to the nature of each internship.
Teaching methods and learning activities
The methodology and activities are determined in collaboration with the guidance team, based on each student’s individual internship project and the specific nature of the work within the host enterprise or institution.
The internship is designed to challenge students with original and complex tasks, fostering the development of new skills, the deepening of existing ones, and the acquisition of knowledge relevant to their future professional careers.

Eligibility for exams
Frequency is obtained by submitting the Internship Report within the deadlines defined by FCUP.
Calculation formula of final grade
The final grade is based on the assessment of the Internship Report and its Defense, conducted in a public examination before an evaluation panel appointed for this purpose, in accordance with the General Regulations for the Second-Cycle Programs at the University of Porto ("Regulamento Geral dos Segundos ciclos da Universidade do Porto").
Classification improvement
