Objectives

Bibliography search and organization of a database.

Discussion of scientific papers.

Improve knowledge on microbiological techniques used commonly in nowadays research.

Develop capacities to conceive structure and put in place an experimental work/design.

Organization of results obtained in the experimental work, elaboration of a poster as for presentation in a scientific meeting.

Elaboration of a manuscript.

Learning outcomes and competences

Development of capacities in cultivation and molecular techniques in Microbiology

Program

This course is mainly based on the planning and execution of a laboratorial study, treatment and analysis of the results and learning how to communicate them to the scientific community. This will be achieved by the preparation of a poster as for a scientific meeting and the elaboration of a manuscript. Culturing and genomic and/or proteomic molecular techniques will be performed in the laboratorial work. Several techniques frequently used in Microbiological studies namely Electron Microscopy, FISH, Brdu-FISH, CARD-FISH, MAR-CARD-FISH, Flow Cytometry, Fingerprinting Methods – DGGE, Pyrosequencing, q-PCR; real time-PCR and Microarrays will be studied focusing on their principles and applicability.
