Objectives

In this curricular unit, it is expected that the student develops the ability to: integrate knowledge, handle complex issues, and find appropriate solutions; communicate his/her findings, knowledge and reasoning that underlie them. It is also expected that the student will: develop the ability to undertake research independently in Astronomy and Astrophysics; deepen his/her knowledge in Astronomy/Asytrophysics, in the scientific area related to the topic of the Dissertation.

Learning outcomes and competences

Students acquire the knowledge, skills and competencies outlined in the dissertation research program, through independent work under supervision, in the form of tutorials.

Working method

Presencial

Program

Individual research program leading to the presentation of an original scientific dissertation on a topic in Astronomy/Astrophysics, specifically prepared for conclusion of this cycle of studies.

Mandatory literature

Vários; Artigos e outras publicações especificas

Comments from the literature

For each project, scientific articles and/or book chapters, technical publications or any other bibliography that is relevant to the theme of the Dissertation project will be indicated.

Teaching methods and learning activities

The research program is chosen to enable students to reach the defined learning outcomes. In particular, it is intended that such a program puts students before unique, complex and stimulating challenges, requiring the development of new capabilities, the deepening of others, and the acquisition of relevant knowledge for their future academic and/or professional careers.

Autonomous work under supervision, in the form of tutorials, is the way that best enables students to develop the skills and competencies identified as learning outcomes. Particularly, the ability to undertake research in Astronomy in a relatively independent way.
