Objectives

The UC aims to develop in the students skills in the creation of new business ventures in the area of life sciences, integrating both a theoretical and a strong practical component. The presentation and discussion of concepts and methodologies, will aim to validate the application of the market potential of a concrete business project in the area of biosciences.

At the end of the course, students should:

1 Understanding the challenges of the creation, validation and start-up of new business process projects;

  1. Knowing the different functional areas of management and how they interrelate in the definition of a startup technology-based strategy.
  2. Able to apply a set of concepts, methods and management tools for the analysis, discussion and implementation of knowledge-intensive business projects in the area of life sciences.
  3. Able to develop teamwork.

Learning outcomes and competences

The UC aims to develop skills in Management, Innovation, Entrepreneurship for enhancing the creation and development of technology-based startups. With the skills acquired by students, are intended to be able to develop in a business context: 1) innovative projects in existing biotechnology companies, as employees, or 2) promote the creation of new business ventures internationally, while founders.

Teaching methods and learning activities

 

 

The UC is structured in training sessions, with lectures and practical sessions, in the form of workshops, where each of the competences to be developed in this UC will be developed. During the training sessions, the projects proposed by the students will be monitored in individual and collective mentoring sessions.
Sessions will also be conducted for submitting projects in Pitch format, and further discussion among teachers and students.

The students' assessment will include a final presentation session of the projects, at the end of the UC and the presentation of a report of the developed project.

Calculation formula of final grade

The evaluation of students will include a final project presentation session at the end of the course (30%)
the evaluation of a written report (30%) also presented at the end of UC. The remaining 40% will be related to 2 evaluation points to be carried out during the course that will evaluate the process of ideation, the presentation of the team and presentation and the evolution of the project.


Classification improvement

Will only be subject to improvement notes the submission of the final report (30%).
