Program

An internship is a pre-professional work experience that provides students with the opportunity to gain experience in a particular career field. It is a way to gain working experience without a permanent commitment. 

To obtain a master's degree in Cell and Molecular Biology the student must submit an Internship Report which shall include, preferably, the description of an original work developed by the student as a contribution to the resolution of technical or conceptual problems in cell and molecular biology area, at the host institution.

Teaching methods and learning activities

Tutorial teaching.
Students are generally exposed to a variety of activities, which may include literature searches, experimental design, bench work, lab notebook management, instrument use, computer/software control and analysis and lab safety; they developed as well as communication, organizational and presentation skills.

Calculation formula of final grade

The Internship Report defense is done in a public presentation to which students and the general public can attend. The duration of the exam is usually around 1h. The examination board typically involves 3 Professors or other experts with a PhD degree (generally at least one of them can be external to the FCUP where the candidate defends the dissertation). 

After the presentation and discussion of the Internship Report the examination board attributes the final classification.
