Acquisition of essential concepts respecting to cadastre, the Portuguese situation, and the land information systems.
It is aimed to provide to the students the legal definitions relative to the components of a Land Registry, and the ways it has been implemented in Portugal. Students will acquire competences to acquire cadastral data and integrate in a land information system. This unit establishes a link, in terms of applying previous knowledge, with other units of geospatial positioning and geographical information systems.
1. Fundamental concepts - Cadastre, territorial reference units, lot, parcel, multifunctional cadastre, land information systems, land planning.
2. Parcel based information records – Parcel cadastre, geometrical cadastre of the rural property, land records. Relation with other records: agricultural Land Parcelling; municipal records.
3. Land register in Portugal – history, present situation, fundamental laws.
4. Land surveying and digital mapping techniques form the collection of geometric cadastral data.
5. Integration of geometric and atribute data in a land information system.
Theoretical lectures are based on a logical and organized exposition of the subjects in the syllabus. Several documents produced by the “Direção Geral do Território” (the Portuguese National Mapping and Cadaster Agency) are presented and discussed. Practical work of field data collection followed by a data organization in a GIS are also done in this course.
The assessment has two components, both with weight of 50%:
(1) written exam about the concepts involved in the course.
