Introduction. Definition of aquaculture. Aquaculture at world, European, and national level. Distinction between extensive, semi-intensive, and intensive aquaculture.
Production systems in aquaculture: tanks, raceways, floating cages. In-shore and off-shore aquaculture.
Polyculture, IMTA, Aquaponics, Bioflocs. Water Recirculation Systems. Water Quality in Aquaculture. Water treatment (mechanical and biological treatments)
Feeds and feeding. Strategies to reduce the impact of feeding in Aquaculture.
Use of chemicals. Disease control.
Selection and genetics. Domestication.
Impact of Aquaculture on the Environment. Comparison with the impact of other animal production. Reduction of the pollutant load in fish effluents. Reducing the use of chemicals. Treatment of effluents. Biological aquacuture. Safety and sustainability of aquaculture products.
