Objective
This discipline aims at giving the students a deep understanding of the EIA process, both in legal and procedural aspects, as well as in technical and scientific ones.
Skills
The student should be able to participate in a multidisciplinary team under the framework of an EIA process, executing with a medium degree of autonomy all the tasks involved in this kind of process.

2 - The EIA legislation - EU Directives 85/337/CE and 97/11/CE; Decreto-Lei 197/2005; Portarias nº
1182/2000, 330/2001 e 123/2002. Other European and Portuguese legislation, relevant to the EIA process.
3 - Geological impacts - introduction; definitions and concepts; methodologies; case studies.
4 - Biological impacts - introduction; definitions and concepts; methodologies; case studies.
5- Socio-economic impacts - introduction; definitions and concepts; methodologies; case studies.

Frequency of the discipline classes under the law and regulations in force.
Obtain minimum rating (9.5 on a scale of 0 to 20, in accordance with regulations in force) in the overall evaluation (final exam + report).

Group work - 50%
Besides the final examination, the student has to integrate a work group (with a number of members defined by the teachers as a function of the total number of students in the discipline) that will present in the end of the semester (normally in the last two classes) a work consisting in th definition of the scope of an EIA for a given project. The theme chosen by each group is previously agreed with the teachers.
In the terms of the general legislation and regulations applicable.
There is no improvement of the grade of the group work.
Students that don’t speak Portuguese may be subjected to alternative forms of evaluation.
There will be no oral examinations.
