Objectives
It is intended to familiarize the student with reading military maps and geological maps at various scales. It is intended that the student be able to perform geological maps geological profiles in current use, as well as the learner to solve simple problems in geology geological maps. It is intended that students are able to make and interpret columns of the stratigraphic record obtained in a geological profile. Intends to give the basis for the interpretation photogeological an area. It is intended that the student knows the principles of conducting a geological survey.
Learning outcomes and competences
It is intended that students learn the basics of geological mapping and that it is competent to perform work of geological mapping in areas of simple geology .
Working method
Presencial
Program
1. Study of Military Maps scale 1:25000: geographic coordinates, UTM and Military. Observation of Geological Maps at with different scales. Hydrographic basins.
2. Geological sections using geological map information.
3. Execution of geological profiles in Geological Maps scale 1:50000. Profiles in areas of granitic rocks, metamorphic rocks and sedimentary rocks.
4. Determination of the outcrop of a layer known three points in outcrop on different levels.
5. Construction of stratigraphic columns from a geological profile.
6. Photogeology. Observation of stereoscopic aerial photographs. Note the differences in geology and geomorphology of faults and fractures, veins, folds, salt domes, river terraces, glacial moraines, etc..
7. Introduction to geological mapping in the field. Identification of lithologies and structures. The use of compass in orientation in the field and to measure geological structures.
