Objectives

Acquisition of fundamental knowledge about the analysis and prevention of various risks arising in the environment that can affect human health. The risks that cause cancer in humans will be emphasized. Introduction to the analysis of geological risks and their monitoring.

Learning outcomes and competences

Principles of data acquisition to characterize and monitor a risk problems.

Working method

Presencial

Program

A - Assessment and risk prevention

Entry, distribution and elimination of chemicals in the human body

Metabolism of exogenous compounds on mammals

Risk assessment for human health

Identification of damage

Exposure assessment

Pharmacokinetic modeling based on the physiology

Dose-response for risk assessment of deterministic effects

Dose-response for the assessment of risk of cancer

Risk Characterization

B - Monitoring risks:

  1. Monitoring
  2. Monitoring Concept and its Features
  3. Plans for monitoring and types
  4. Variables
  5. Limitations
  6. Elements of data collection: Sampling and Analog vs Digital registration
  7. Specifications and measuring equipment parts
  8. Dimensions of data collection: spot, profile, map / section, volume, volume with time evolution.
  9. Measurements: Variables, precision, accuracy and resolution
  10. Variables to measure and their sensors: Displacement, Pressure, Strength and deformation, motion and vibration, flow (anemometers, reels), Temperature, Thermal conductivity, humidity, level or presence of water, Radiation - thermal and nuclear, gas and particles ,
  11. Risk and uncertainty
  12. Signal (spatial and temporal), image, Bits

Teaching methods and learning activities

In the lectures slides are displayed (made in Powerpoint) including graphs, diagrams, images, photographs, field pictures; these materials are placed in Sigarra;
Conducting field classes;
In some lectures exercises related to theoretical concepts are carried out.
In practical classes group work is promoted, proposing problems of the syllabus to students  with a focus on practice with measuring and monitoring using testing equipment.

Evaluation Type

Distributed evaluation without final exam
