Objectives
Introduction to Landscape Planning aims to initiate students in the theoretical concepts of landscape planning.
The theoretical component covers: 1) the discipline of Landscape Ecology as a support for the exercise of land use planning from the perspective of Landscape Architecture, 2) the concept of sustainable development and 3) also includes a brief introduction to Portuguese Landscape and Spatial Planning legal framework.
Practical classes aim to consolidate the knowledge acquired in theoretical classes. Students will realize different exercises, which will reinforce their skills to intervene in landscape. In a first moment, students analyse and characterize different variables (altimetry, hydrography, slopes, soils, geology, land use, cultural and natural heritage, infrastructure, demography, etc.). in a second moment, they must identify landscape units and landscape character. In a final moment, students propose a green infrastructure, an area for urban development and define landscape quality objectives. All proposals must attend to European and Portuguese legislation referred on theoretical classes. Individual and work group exercises, developed manually and using GIS.
Learning outcomes and competences

Minimum grade: 10 in all components (CT1, CT2, CP1, CP2, CP3).
Test specific rules: 1) Students with a score lower than 10 and higher than 8 points have the opportunity to do an oral test. 2) Students with a mark above 16 in the test will have to do an oral test. In the case of not attending, the final classification is 16.
Minimum attendance: 75% of practical classes and 75% of theoretical classes.
Field trip to Póvoa de Varzim (7 March 2019) is mandatory. The field trip report deadline is 14 March 2019.Calculation formula of final grade
Final grade = 40%*((25%*CT1) + (75%*CT2))+ 60%*((60%*CP1)+(40%*CP2))Observations
