Theoric classes Feeding strategies. Anatomy of the digestive system of fish and crustaceans. Physiology of digestion. Definition of digestibility and methods for estimation digestibility of feeds and feedstuffs. Nutrients function, metabolism and requirements: protein and amino acids; lipids and fatty acids, carbohydrates, vitamins, minerals. Nutritional energetics. Feedstuffs and its characterization. Feed formulation. Compound feed production techniques. Nutrition and fish health. Growth and body composition. Growth modeles. Experimental design in aquatic animal nutrition. Practical classes Anatomy of the digestive system of different aquaculture species. Fish manipulation in tanks: basics of anesthesia, sampling, weighing, feeding. Feces colection for digestibility studies. Gathering data on nutrient requirements of different species. Evaluation of data obtained in nutrition trials. Critical analysis of nutrition trials. Visist to fish feed and aquaculture facilities.
