Objectives

Integration of knowledge acquired in the UC analytical chemistry and introduction to the analytical process in the laboratory practice of volumetric processes, physical  separation and potentiometric and spectrophotometric methods , through the implementation of various practical work. Development of laboratory execution capabilities, systematic registration, interpretation of experimental results and their critical evaluation.

Learning outcomes and competences

Capacity building for execution of analytical methodologies in the laboratory, systematic registration of processes and procedures, interpretation of experimental results, their critical evaluation and decision-making abilities. Communication skills of analytical results.

Working method

Presencial

Program

Performing quantitative analytical methodologies that encourage the application and practical integration of knowledge syllabus of analytical chemistry: volumetric analysis, instrumental analysis and separation/extraction processes. Application of potentiometry and exploration of UV/Vis spectrophotometry and atomic.

Eligibility for exams

The evaluation in this discipline will involve three levels:
-Practical performance-this will be made on the basis of  student performance, previous preparation of the activities and note of the reports on the activities proposed during laboratory classes.
-Practice test-all students will carry out a test that is individual and based on the laboratorial work. The realization of this practical test is mandatory.
-Written examination-Examination to be performed at the time of exams.
The final grade corresponds to a weighted average of the following elements: a) Experimental performance during class – 40%; b) Practice test – 20% c) written examination – 40%.
Final written examination is not awarded to students in the following conditions:
- Laboratorial performance evaluation score less than 9.5;
- Will also fail students whose exam written note is less than 5 values.

Calculation formula of final grade

The final grade corresponds to a weighted average of the following elements: a) Practical performance during classes – 40%; b) Practice test – 20 % c) written examination – 40%.

Special assessment (TE, DA, ...)

In accordance with the rules issued by the educational Council of FCUP.

Classification improvement

Can be improved the evaluation element "written examination".
