Every dissertation presented for the master degree shall be based on original piece of work carried out by the student or an original appraisal of existing published data, and shall represent knowledge in a cell and molecular biology area.

Calculation formula of final grade
The dissertation defense is done in a public presentation in which students and the general public can attend. The exam typically extends over 2 h. The examination board typically involves 3 Professors or other experts with a PhD degree (generally at least one of them can be external to the University of Porto).
After the presentation and discussion of the dissertation the examination board attributes the final classification.
