Objectives

It is intended that students understand basic concepts of signal and image processing and apply that knowledge to the processing of astronomical data (images, spectra), performing also its analysis for scientific purposes.

Learning outcomes and competences

Familiarization with the typical signals in Astronomy (photometry, spectroscopy), their treatment and handling, using suitable software. Ability to solve general problems in the processing and analysis of these signals, interpretation of the results for scientific purposes.

Working method

Presencial

Program

- Basic concepts of signal and image processing.

- Data reduction/processing in astronomy: noise, calibration, detection, deblending.

- Applications: assessment of properties in spectroscopy and photometry and analysis for scientific purposes.
