Each student must develop studies and preparatory work to conclude, in the end of the second academic semester, his MIEF Scientific Thesis/Development Project or Professional Training Report. The result of this activity is collected in a written Report, followed by oral Presentation and discussion.
Ability to define individual advanced work in the field of Engineering Physics, either in the form of dissertation, stage or project.
Competence in conducting a thorough literature search to get the state of the art in research topic chosen.
Competence to determine open questions and check the viability of the work plan, performing preliminary exploratory experiments.
The specific topics of the individual activity are described in detailed forms (prepared for each student enrolled, and signed by both student and supervisor(s), which contains: names of student and supervisor(s), title of the work, synthetic description of the work, bibliography, facilities available.
Tutorial sessions and supervised laboratory/computational work.

The student should not fail to attend the tutorials by more than 1/4 of the programmed sessions.
The final examination includes an Oral Presentation (10 minutes) of the Synthesis-Report of the work developed (witten in Portuguese or English, maximum extent 15 A4 pages), followed by discussion (20 minutes) between panel and candidate.
The panel includes all supervisors and the MIEF course director.
The final mark results from the averaged marks attributted to the Synthesis-Report (45%), to the Oral Presentation (45%), and to the continued work along the semester (10%, attributed by the supervisor(s)).
