Objectives

Acquire a general knowledge of viticulture.

Program

– History and evolution of viticulture. Main Portuguese wine regions and types of wine produced.
2 – Origin and evolution of Vitáceas. Systematic. Selection of rootstocks.

7 – Establishing of a vineyard.
8 – Canopy management.

Teaching methods and learning activities

Theoretical and practical classes (in the vinyard). Visits to vineyards.

Evaluation Type

Evaluation with final exam

Eligibility for exams

Loses the frequency the student who miss more than a quarter of practical classes, or does not perform satisfactorily two thirds of the work of a laboratory

Calculation formula of final grade

The final grade will result from the sum of the evaluation obtained in theoretical and practical components: the theoretical component, with weight of 80%, will be assessed through written test, while the practical part with weight of 20%, will be evaluated by means of two components, evaluation of reports (15%) and practical assessment of the operation of pruning of the vine (5%). The final note is obtained by the formula: Final Note = (T x R x 80% + 15% + d x 5%) T-Rank obtained in the test. (Will be admitted to test students who have attended 3/4 of practical classes). R-rating obtained in reports. P-rating obtained in the practical classes of pruning. The approval in the discipline is subject to obtaining a FINAL NOTE > = 9.5 values and minimum rating 8.0 values in all components (T, R and P).

Classification improvement

The improvement of the grade can be made independently on any of the components of the assessment: T, R and P. For improvement of R is required the presentation of new work and P is the frequency of lessons pruning practices.
