Doctoral Programs | Thesis Submission 2023/2024

Submission Request

In accordance with Article 17 of the Regulation for the Third Cycle of Studies of the University of Porto, once the duration of the Doctoral Program has been completed and within the deadline applicable to each student, the Thesis Submission process begins with the submission in InfoCiências - Admission to Academic Examinations of the following:

  • Digital version (PDF) of the Thesis (layout available in SIGARRA);
  • Curriculum Vitae (PDF);
  • Sworn Statement (PDF) (Article 14 of the Code of Ethical Academic Conduct of the University of Porto);
  • Declarations from all the supervisor team stating that the Thesis is ready for public defence (PDF);
  • In case of an FCT scholarship, proof of the last renewal (PDF).

Information - Fee

Under the terms of Table of Fees of the University of Porto, the student is obliged to pay a fee of 500,00¤, to be paid after the thesis submission request.

The fee will be generated after verification of the process by the Post-Graduation Office, and can be paid using one of the following payment methods. The process will not be approved without this payment being made.


After Defence Procedure

After the defence of the Thesis, and within a month, the students who are approved must deliver in the Post-Graduation Office the following documentation:

  • 1 paper version of the Thesis with a book like cover (layout available in SIGARRA);
  • Digital version (PDF) of the Thesis (layout available in SIGARRA) – if the document doesn’t exceed 20MB it must be sent by email to pos.graduacao@fc.up.pt. If the document exceeds 20MB, the document can be sent by Wetransfer or Filesender to the same email address;
  • Delivery form (PDF).

Information – Corrections to the Thesis

If the jury approves the thesis with recommendations for the correction of faults, inaccuracies or formal errors identified and explicitly mentioned during the examination, the student must make the corrections within a maximum of one month after the public defence and these must be validated by the supervisor within a maximum of one month after their submission by the student.


Information – Certification

Any certificate attesting the conclusion of the Doctoral Program will only be possible to issue after the aforementioned process is completed.

The Certificate of Doutor Degree (Doctor’s Degree) and Doctoral Diploma are issued by the Rectory of the University of Porto.
