Diana Moreira is a Postdoctoral Researcher at the Sexual Plant Reproduction & Development Lab (SPReDLab), integrated in LAQV/REQUIMTE and the Department of Biology of the Faculty of Sciences, University of Porto (FCUP).
Her research focuses on the cellular and molecular processes that regulate sexual reproduction in plants, both in the model plant Arabidopsis thaliana and in economically important species such as Oryza sativa (rice). During her PhD, her work specifically addressed the role of arabinogalactan proteins (AGPs) and how their glycosylation influences reproductive success, from seed formation to seed development in Arabidopsis thaliana. She obtained her Bachelor’s degree in Biology in 2016 and her Master’s degree in Functional Biology and Plant Biotechnology in 2018 from FCUP, which included a research stay at ITbM, Japan. In 2024, she completed her PhD in Biology at FCUP in collaboration with Ohio University (USA), with the thesis “A Sweet Affair: The Importance of AGP Sugars in Plant Reproduction.”
Between 2023 and 2025, she joined the Plantech group (School of Biotechnology, Portuguese Catholic University and Centre for Biotechnology and Fine Chemistry, CBQF) as a researcher and project manager, collaborating in European projects RADIANT (H2020, GA No. 101000622) and NUSTALGIC (PRIMA, GA No. 2411). She is currently a researcher in the PrOryza project, funded by La Caixa Foundation/BPI, dedicated to developing climate-resilient rice varieties adapted to Portuguese agriculture.
She is the author and co-author of publications in high-level international scientific journals (Q1) and has participated in projects funded by FCT, La Caixa, Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions, and H2020. Beyond research, she is actively involved in science communication and in promoting Plant Biology to society.
