C. Soares, PhD in Biology and researcher in Plant Biochemistry and Physiology, dedicates his time to the understanding of plant abiotic stress tolerance, especially focusing on the redox metabolism. Since the beginning of his scientific pathway, C. Soares is part of the line-up of the Plant Stress lab (GreenUPorto/FCUP), a leading laboratory in the area of Plant Stress Physiology. By combining biochemical and molecular biology tools, his research addresses the main metabolic and physiological responses of plants exposed to adverse growth conditions, including climatic change, metal toxicity and herbicide contamination. Being involved in 10 national/international R&D funded projects, C. Soares is author/co-author of 1 book chapter and 50 scientific articles in high-impact factor journals in the areas of Plant Sciences and Environmental Sciences. He is currently part of the Editoral Board in different journals, namely "Plant Stress" (Elsevier), "Nano Plant Biology" (Elsevier) and "Frontiers in Plant Science". Over the years, C. Soares has been actively involved in communication and outreach activities, participating in the organisation of international scientific events (e.g. seminars and conferences), collaborating with lectures and practical lessons on several high schools.Since 2022, he has been collaborating, as an Invited Lecuter, with the Biology Department of FCUP. Between 2019-2023, he was part of the Media & Outreaching Management group of GreenUPorto, being currently part of the consortium PlantAnim, an initiative to promote Plant Biology research within UPorto community.
