Nuno Ribeiro graduated in 2003 in University of Porto’s Faculty of Sciences and taught Science and Biology in several public schools for more than a decade. He completed a MSc in Biology Teaching in the same Faculty in 2006 and joined Ipatimup's Public Awareness of Cancer Unit (former Science Communication Unit) in the same year. He completed his PhD at University of Aveiro in 2018 where he explored the use of smartphones in cancer prevention.
He is currently a researcher in Ipatimup’s Cancer Prevention Unit and a research collaborator in University of Aveiro’s DigiMedia – Digital Media and Interaction Research Centre. He is also the scientific coordinator of a science outreach laboratory called LABS – Laboratório Aberto de Biologia e Saúde (Ipatimup/i3S), a school textbook author at ASA editores (Leya), and a member of the European Parliament’s List of Experts in the field of Science Communication (EPRS/ESMH/SER/19/00lCEI).
Over the years, he participated in numerous research projects, ranging from science communication to cancer prevention and developed educational software, hands-on activities, teacher training courses, teaching manuals, and short documentaries. He as authored numerous articles in international peer-reviewed journals, book chapters, conference papers, health outreach books for the general public, and school textbooks.
His research focuses on the implementation of cancer prevention strategies in young populations with an emphasis on digital and interactive media.
