C. Soares, PhD in Biology and researcher in Plant Biochemistry and Physiology, dedicates his time to the understanding of plant abiotic stress tolerance, especially focusing on the redox metabolism. Since the beginning of his scientific pathway, C. Soares is part of the line-up of the Plant Stress lab (GreenUPorto/FCUP), a leading laboratory in the area of Plant Stress Physiology. By combining biochemical and molecular biology tools, his research addresses the main metabolic and physiological responses of plants exposed to adverse growth conditions, including climatic change, metal toxicity and herbicide contamination. Being involved in 7 national/international I&D funded projects, C. Soares is author/co-author of 1 book chapter and 32 scientific articles in high-impact factor (28 in Q1) journals in the areas of Plant Sciences and Environmental Sciences. Since 2022, he serves as Review Editor in Frontiers in Plant Science (Abiotic Stress section) and Topic Editor in Antioxidants (MDPI). Over the years, C. Soares has been actively involved in communication and outreach activities, participating in the organisation of international scientific events (e.g. seminars and conferences), collaborating with lectures and practical lessons on several high schools and giving laboratory and theoretical assistance to different MSc courses (FCUP). Since 2019, he is a member of the Media & Outreaching Management of the research centre GreenUPorto.
