Background: 1986: Graduated in Biology at the Faculty of Sciences, University Porto. 1998: PhD in Biology at University Aveiro; 2007: Habilitation for Full Professor in 2007. From 1998-2015 she was a Professor at UA and CESAM Researcher.

Teaching: Has been responsible for teaching and program/curricula development of several courses (e.g Cell Biology, Biotechnology, Physiology). Co-authored the creation and curricula definition of 1st, Master and PhD Courses (eg Biotechnology-UA, MAP-BioPlant). Elaborated the official Biology Programs for highschool for the Timor-Leste Ministery of Education (2009-2013). From 2013-2014 was consultant for Education&Science Minister for Biology field of National basic programmes.

Supervision: supervise(d) 1 assistant researcher, 17 pos-docs grants, >30 PhD and >70 Master students. Participated in >250 National/International juries for professional contracts and/or academic exams.

Research expertise and interest: Biotechnology and cell signalling under in response to stimulus and to new pathogens and pests (eg  phytopathology); 
Integration of molecular/biotechnoloy and omics (transcriptional analysis, metabolomics) and physiology
for integrative biology;
Development of new control compounds for a sustanable environment (new peptides, nanocompounds)
Phytocompounds and antitumoral bioactivity;
Cell & Molecular Biology

Projects and networks: Participate/ed in 33 National/International Projects being local/national coordinator of 16 (7 intersectoral R&D).

Publications, reviewer and editing : Co-author of 1 review book on metal toxicity, 6 Manuals/Guides of Biology, 2 books on East Timor natural resources/health; 20 chapters, ~232 ISI papers (scopus HI=40). Reviewer and/or co-editor of >100 scientific manuscripts.

National/international Expert: Member of International/ European Evaluation Commissions and scientific advisor for several meetins: Evaluator of EU project's progress (>4 since 2015); Vice-chair of the FETOPEN-Horizon2020 (2015); Evaluator of: European Projects MC/MSCA-ITN/IFs (2013-2021), SMEs (2016-2021), Teeming (2016-2018), Twining (2016-2018); 7th FW (2010); Environment Panel, 7th FW, Brussels, EU (2010-2012);  KBBE, INTAS CALLS (6th FP). Evaluator of biotechnology projects for the Hungary Government (2015); Portugal (FCT, ANI), German Government (Program GABI), Spain (LaCaixa,; Agaur, Catalugna), International Science Foudation (ISF), France (ParisSud, RBUCE), Romania (2022), Czech Republic (2010-2012), etc.
R&D was established with several biotecnology companies (eg KLON), or pulp companies for biotechnology and with environment institutes for environment monitoring services.
