Apresentação Pessoal

Research topics:

1- Study of the biochemical and molecular mechanisms that regulate the activity of the enzyme glutamine synthetase (GS) and how it integrates and regulates plant nitrogen metabolism, leading the research group Plant Productivity (FCUP / GreenUPorto) (https://www.fc.up.pt/GreenUPorto/pt/ ). The study of this enzyme contributes to an improvement in plant nitrogen use efficiency and crop yield, while reducing the need for highly polluting fertilizers.

2- Evaluation of the importance of GS in plant reproduction and seed production / quality through a combination of genetic, molecular and biochemical approaches, in the model plants Arabidopsis thaliana and Medicago truncatula and their integration in the seed's nitrogen metabolism, collaborating with the research group Sexual Plant Reproduction and Development laboratory (FCUP / REQUIMTE) (https://www.fc.up.pt/agplab/ ).

3- Study of plant-microorganism interactions beneficial for plant productivity. Discovery and identification of soil microorganisms potentially used as biofertilizers, creating a clean and efficient way to improve soil fertility and environmental quality in sustainable agricultural management practices. Evaluation of the biochemical and molecular effects of microorganisms on plant growth and defense mechanisms.
