The 1st cycle in Geospatial Engineering aims to combine solid training in the fundamental sciences and computer science with specific technological areas such as remote sensing, satellite positioning and geographic information systems (GIS). In the curricular units of Geospatial Engineering area, students will acquire knowledge related to the acquisition, processing, treatment and analysis of geospatial information using the most recent georeferenced information acquisition technologies using spatial, aerial and terrestrial and marine platforms. The student of Geospatial Engineering will carry out, in the last year of the course, an internship in a business environment or in governmental departments, that will give him the direct contact with the professional reality.

Employment Prospects
Graduates in Geospatial Engineering can perform tasks in the private sector, public administration, European institutions or scientific research in different areas: satellite positioning and navigation; processing and analysis of remote sensing data; study of the coastal and deep ocean; land registry; treat, aggregate and make available information in a web environment; explore, manipulate and analyze geospatial information, including that were obtained from Earth observation sensors, or global positioning and navigation systems, among other geo-spatial / geospatial information acquisition techniques; acquire geospatial information using terrestrial, marine and unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs); develop, implement and make available GIS applications for applications in agronomy, environment, geology, biology, etc. Graduates may pursue 2nd cycle studies in Geographical Engineering or Remote Sensing, in the Faculty of Sciences of the University of Porto.
Structure of the Study Cycle
The course lasts 6 academic semesters and consists of 180 credits (ECTS). The curricular structure, focused in the area of Geospatial Engineering (78 ECTS), has the first year and part of the second one supported mainly on fundamental subjects in the areas of mathematics (30 ECTS), computer science (24 ECTS), physics (18 ECTS) and also geology and management. These lectures take place on Campo Alegre Campus of the Faculty of Sciences, most of them together with students from other undergraduate degrees. In the 2nd semester of the third year, there is an internship / Project with 15 ECTS. In this UC it is intended that the student has his first contact with professional or scientific activity.
