Renewal of PhD Registrations for the academic year 2023/2024

Renewal from the 1st to the 2nd year (Official registration in Thesis)

The official registration in the 2nd year (Thesis) must be made, without delay, until a maximum period of 15 working days from the end of the first year (counted from your official starting date mentioned in Sigarra’s course page of your first registration year in “Information - Application Dates”). The request must be submitted in the following URL, after authenticating with your student access codes:https://sigarra.up.pt/fcup/pt/WEB_BASE.GERA_PAGINA?p_pagina=1029568 .

Renewal from the 2nd to the 3rd year (and from the 3rd to the 4th year for PhD with 240 ECTS credits)

The renewal of registration will take place from July 17th to 30th October 2023, in Sigarra, after authenticating with your student access codes, clicking in your name – Options – Registrations.

Renewal after the end of the official duration of the PhD (for 1 more year or 90 working days)

The registration request must be made, without delay, until a maximum period of 15 working days from the deadline applicable to each student (counted from your official starting date mentioned in Sigarra’s course page of your first registration year in “Information - Application Dates”). The request must be submitted in the following URL, after authenticating with your student access codes: https://sigarra.up.pt/fcup/en/WEB_BASE.GERA_PAGINA?p_pagina=1029568.

According to the Rectoral Order number GR.02/03/2021, students who request the renewal of their registration for 90 working days (which implies a registration in the new academic year) but don’t submit their thesis until the deadline, will have to pay the tuition fee applicable since the beginning of that registration. This will apply whether the student decides to continue their studies or quit the PhD, in which case a request for cancellation should be submitted and the corresponding tuition fee should be paid, as defined by article 8 of the Regulation for Tuition Fees of the University of Porto.

Notes:
  • In exceptional situations (suspensions, registration in part-time, “manutenção da matrícula”, etc,) please contact the Post-Graduation Unit (pos.graduacao@fc.up.pt).
  • According to the Rectoral Order number GR.06/06/2021, when a student with an FCT grant defends their thesis before the end of the FCT grant, usually FCT will only pay the tuition fee accordingly. In these cases, if FCT doesn’t pay the full amount of the tuition fee regarding that academic year, the student will be responsible for the remaining payment, even if the PhD degree has already been obtained.
  • Requests submitted after the deadlines mentioned above will be subject of a penalty fee, according to the “Fees Table” of the University of Porto.
